Putting Around: Building Camaraderie and Creativity at Western Office with our First Annual Western LA Open Mini-Golf Tournament

folder_openNew at Western, Workplace Culture

Western Office culture thrives on the balance between hard work and play, and what better way to foster team spirit and camaraderie than through a miniature golf tournament right in the heart of the office? Last year, a group of Western masterminds organized a fun-filled event that brought out the competitive spirit in all of us while creating memorable moments of laughter and bonding. If there is one thing we know about Western Office, it is that we are competitive. This was right up our alley.

Transforming Our Space for a Temporary Activation

The idea of hosting a miniature golf tournament at our office stemmed from none other than “National Miniature Golf Day” a holiday from a fake calendar created by animal parents and people who drink margaritas in the middle of the day. The tournament stemmed from our desire to break away from the routine and infuse some fun into our creative office space, all while showcasing the flexibility and adaptability of our workplace design. We transformed a typical workspace into an innovative office layout mini-golf course, complete with challenging obstacles, tunnels, and loops that tested our creativity and precision.

Encouraging Cross-Departmental Collaboration

One of the most rewarding aspects of the event was the opportunity for cross-departmental collaboration. Teams were formed with members from different areas of the company, encouraging team-building activities in a new and engaging way. This not only strengthened existing relationships but also fostered new connections, reflecting the collaborative spirit that defines our approach to office design projects.

Promoting Healthy Competition in the Workplace

The tournament struck the perfect balance between friendly competition and strategic teamwork. Each team navigated a series of uniquely designed holes, featuring creative challenges like maneuvering around a Knoll Generation chair or a Muuto pouf. The event highlighted the ingenuity and problem-solving skills that our team brings to every office design solution.

Creating Memorable Workplace Experiences

Laughter echoed throughout the office as we witnessed unexpected trick shots and near-impossible putts miraculously sinking. The event wasn’t just about winning; it was about enjoying the moment and celebrating teamwork. Even those less familiar with golf found themselves immersed in the fun, discovering hidden talents and sharing in the delight of their teammates’ successes. While the tournament was competitive, it was the shared experience, the creative problem-solving, and the collaborative spirit that left a lasting impression on all of us. The event concluded with a memorable final hole designed by Tyler Utterberg, which spanned two floors of our office space, culminating in a celebratory signing of a commemorative poster.

Looking Ahead to Future Office Innovations

As we prepare for our 2nd Annual Western LA Open Mini-Golf Tournament, the stakes are even higher. With our showroom recently undergoing a complete furniture refresh, the new layout will offer fresh challenges and opportunities for workplace innovation. Just like in our client office projects, no one has the upper hand—everyone is encouraged to bring their A-game as we continue to build a culture of creativity, collaboration, and excellence..
